In this final episode of Season 1, we discuss another major cause of a poor relationship with food and eating.
You might be surprised to hear that for many people, eating issues has very little to do with the actual food. Problems with eating are not usually due to informed nutritional decisions. At least, that's not all that goes into eating behaviors. In fact, quite often, food is not really the issue at all! There can be deeper reasons why people become bound up in disordered eating practices over time, and we are going to look at one major reason that changes healthy eating patterns into troubling relationships with food.

I am answering a listener question in today's podcast. She wanted me to address concerns about body image and weight gain for pregnant and postpartum women. Although I will mainly be addressing pregnancy, all of this applies equally to the postpartum or lactating stage women, as well.
Pregnancy is usually considered a joyous event worth celebrating. And I hope it still is, but I’ve seen some other priorities come in and zap some of the joy – and importance – of childbearing out of the experience. While living in an image-saturated culture that is obsessed with thinness can be especially provoking to women who are pregnant, whose bodies are not as controllable as before, and who can have many conflicting emotions about this.
Let me discuss this openly and encourage you new mommies and mommies-to-be if you are one who battles the challenges of body image issues during this most precious season of life!

If you have a practice of secret eating or secretly avoiding food, I want to encourage you today. I also want to shed a bit of light on the beginning of the path to true freedom from this practice and all the related entanglements it represents.
If you are someone who is regularly, purposefully eating in secret, the truth that you need to hear is that you probably need some help and that you likely can't see the real problem clearly by yourself. I really want you to know that this issue should be taken lightly.
